Those interested in the life of their ancestors in the Potteries during 1800's should read "When I Was A Child" by Charles Shaw (b1832 Tunstall).

Hardly known under its original title of "When I Was A Child", originally published anonymously it formed the basis of Arnold Bennett's novel ClayHanger. The story of Darius Clayhanger is based on Shaw's autobiography.
